  • The Rodnik Band 'Venus in Sequins'

    The Rodnik Band 'Venus in Sequins'

    'The Rodnik Band' is a label presented in the form of an ironic fashion band, where artist, designer and musician, Philip Colbert, develops songs based on each collection concept, and presents them with videos and performances.  The playful branding of 'The Rodnik Band' blurs the relationships between music, art and fashion.

    Philip Colbert says of his work;

    "Rodnik was always known for a 'happy go lucky' humorous spirit, and I wanted to develop a stronger design aesthetic which matched this brand concept. I wanted my new collection to scream, with a self awareness and acknowledgment that fashion is ridiculous even absurd, but that's why I love it, and that's what makes it an art!

    The satire of art, felt like the perfect inspiration, to make humorous references, that are accessible in conceptual meaning, such as Marcel Duchamp's fountain (urinal) and capture an ironic take on 'wearable art'. I was inspired by the allure and mystical value that art represents, the value, status, and luxury that the iconic works imply, and the humor of translating this in clothes. The artists references range from Duchamp, Warhol, Oldenburg, Dali and Wieselman."

    The Rodnik Band's latest collection "Venus in Sequins" will be exhibited at the Gazelli Art House where the collection will be presented, the artworks exhibited and the band will perform a song homaging 'venus in furs' by the velvet underground, as a contextual reference to the avant-garde art scene.
